Beware of Trusted Trader impersonators

It was brought to our attention recently by a number of our Trusted Traders that a business has been set up and is calling itself Trusted Traders Edinburgh.

This business is absolutely nothing to do with Edinburgh Trusted Trader and has no official backing or support from, Edinburgh Trading Standards, Police Scotland or National Trading Standards.

We have also had complaints from Traders who have been contacted by other commercial approval schemes who claim to be affiliated with Edinburgh Trusted Trader.

Edinburgh Trusted Trader is the only Trading Standards approved Trader scheme within Edinburgh. It is also the official approved Trader scheme backed by , supported by Police Scotland and works in partnership with other approved Trading Standards Trusted Trader Schemes. The Edinburgh Trusted Trader Scheme has now been up and running for two years and we now have 122 fully vetted Trusted Traders with 43 businesses currently being vetted by Trading Standards.

Feedback from residents has been overwhelmingly positive and the few inevitable trader issues have or are being dealt with sympathetically and impartially for all parties concerned. In extreme cases, this has led to a couple of traders being removed from the scheme, or the consumer complaint was found to be unfair or unjust.

Unlike commercial schemes, Trading Standards Trusted Trader Schemes have a strict application criteria and vetting process. This is to ensure as far as possible that local residents can have confidence that a Trusted Trader is reliable, trustworthy and professional. Businesses can show their official Trusted Trader credentials with pride.
