Trusted Trader Case Studies
Trusted Trader is a Trading Standards initiative. Applicants go through a rigorous vetting process by Trading Standards Officers. If accepted, members are then monitored throughout the life of their membership.

S&P Renewables has a shop on Channel Street in Galashiels, with the solar panels, batteries and heat pumps it fits set out in the window. David Snelling started Concept Joiners in Bishopbriggs in 2021, after an apprenticeship and eighteen years with a joinery company. The business does framing and finish carpentry, which are usually done by different people, and takes renovation work from a stripped back shell through to the last piece of trim.

Stephen Higgins and Gordon Finlayson founded the Musselburgh firm in October 2021 and now run a team of nine, three of them apprentices, at the specialist end of the trade: lead roofing and flashings, cupolas, finials and leaded windows, and traditional slating across Scotland and the Borders.

Craig Swinton served his apprenticeship straight out of school and set up on his own in Cupar in 2003. His son Ben is now a qualified electrician in the business, his wife Nicola runs the office, and two apprentices are coming through. Fifteen years a Fife Trusted Trader in 2026.

Derek White started his apprenticeship in Barrhead in 1987 and has run D W Plumbing & Heating from Newton Mearns since 2006, spending seven of those years teaching plumbing, heating and gas to college apprentices.
