Edinburgh Trading Standards Update February 2016
Author: Tom Howorth, Trading Standards Officer
Dementia Friends with Trusted Trader
Over the past few months, I have been working with Alzheimer’s Scotland to allow our Trusted Trader members to carry the Dementia Friends logo on the trustedtrader.scot website and their own literature on completion of a basic dementia awareness course.
The course is available online at www.dementiafriendsscotland.org. The course is about awareness of dementia and treating suffers or those you suspect may be suffering from dementia with sensitivity and respect.
I hope that eventually all our Trusted Traders will take the course, which only takes about 20 minutes, and will allow you to display the badge with pride!
To get the right to display the logo, all your staff must undertake the training. Once this has been done, please forward the Alzheimer’s Scotland course completion email to admin@trustedtrader.scot.
When you hire new staff, please ensure that the dementia training is included as part of their induction, as you may be asked for evidence when your Trusted Trader membership comes up for renewal.
New T&Cs
You should all receive an email notification of a minor change to the terms and conditions of Trusted Trader in the next few weeks. If you want to read the terms again, please visit the Code of Practice page. We needed to make the change now to take account of a few developments over the first few months of the scheme. However, there will be more changes coming through in a couple of months to take account of some of the finer details of the Alternative Dispute Resolution scheme. Whilst this scheme is already available to members, the changes to the T&Cs haven’t been finalised yet.
Any questions?
I suggested to the Trusted Trader team that Trading Standards would be happy to answer any relevant member questions, such as the recent changes to the Consumer Rights Act 2015, or any issues or concerns you think we could help with. If you have any questions, email them to the trusted trader admin team and I will try and answer them if I can and publish the responses in future updates.
That just leaves me to say keep up the good work!
