T j Ferris Stonemasonry specialize in conserving and restoring the detailed stone work on churches, castles and many other listed buildings from the 18th, 19th and early 20th century.
We have a rich history in restoring heritage properties from Pitlochry, Scotland to Bristol, England and even Morzine, France. Projects range from the complete restoration of grade A structures such as dovecots and homes, to Castle, bridges and church repairs.

I engaged T J Ferris with a neighbour to carry out repairs and maintenance to a share chimney. From start to finish the process was very easy. The survey was done very quickly and the estimate follwed again very quickly. I chose to source my own scaffolding which was no issue and despite a long delay on our part, the estimate was honoured. Thne price was very fair.
The work was done quickly and efficiently and to a very high standard. The Team on site were friendly, conscientious and incredibly tidy. They cleaned up all the mess, including sweeping and using blowers on the scaffolding, you would not know they had been there.
I would not hesitate to recommend them and would use them again.

Tom and his team repaired a section of wall and renewed pointing in my garden in May 2024. Despite some unavoidable delays due to the wet weather, the job was done efficiently and to a high standard. Courteous and easy to communicate with throughout the project.

Thomas & his team have made an excellent job of rebuilding a large section of our random rubble stone garden wall which collapsed following Storm Isha in January 2024. We are very pleased with the work done which is to a very high standard & has been carried out at a very reasonable cost & well within the agreed timescale despite difficult weather conditions. Thomas is a very skilled stone mason who clearly takes a great pride in his work. We have no hesitation in recommending him & his team.

The work carried out was to a very high standard, and the owners were very satisfied with the work. They made sure the area was completely cleaned up after the work was finished.
Thomas is very easy to deal with, and his team are all very polite. They are very good at what they do and very efficient.
We have now engaged Thomas to carry out more work on behalf of the owners we serve, and I would highly recommend him for any stonework needing carried out.

Thomas and his team took on a total wall collapse in our garden. They tackled this large job without fuss and extremely professionally. The job was completed ahead of schedule and to budget. Tom and his team recently finished a number of stone and building repairs at my house and I cannot recommend them enough. The job was complex yet Tom and his team provided me with a comprehensive estimate and plan which was followed through keeping us in budget. The craftsmanship was first class and Tom's team were professional, courteous and tidy throughout. I could not be more happy with the job.

Thomas was very responsive to what I wanted in terms of working with various pieces of old stone which I wanted to recycle as paving slabs around a lawn. Thomas and his team replaced some stones on the exterior wall of my listed house and removed some crumbling mortar before fixing the gaps. The end result is great - it blends in with the rest of the building perfectly and they were professional throughout the process. They worked quickly and efficiently, sticking to their promised time frame and budget!

Thomas and his team repaired, repointed and replaced the landing of our colony external stairs. As the render was removed from the step walls it became clear the steps were in greater disrepair than we thought. Thomas was quick to make the steps safe and clearly explained the additional works needed.
He also repaired some weathered stone work and removed old cement repairs repointing with the correct mortar.

Thomas and his team re-built our boundary wall which had been blown over by Storm Arwen. They did a fantastic job over 3 weeks using re-claimed bricks, and the result matches in perfectly with the original wall built over 80 years ago. David did a brilliant job of moulding the coping so that it matched and fitted in with the original coping. They are such a professional team, turning up at 7.30am every day, always cheery and very hard working. We are very pleased with the finished product. We would highly recommend.

Thomas completely replaced the platform at the top of my Colony steps, repaired some of the steps, repaired the walls on either side and repointed the walls along the pavement. Everything was colour matched to fit with the original steps and I’m delighted with the final result.
Thomas and his workers were really great, friendly and polite and worked so hard to do everything just right. Thomas kept me informed every step of the way, was very thorough when finishing off and made sure everything was tidied up. A very positive experience!

Extensive renovation work carried out to walled garden, including replacement coping, re-point and replacement bricks where necessary to match existing.
Overall, very pleased with the work carried out by TJ Ferris. From the beginning, Thomas was very helpful, which made the decision process easy and the end result is excellent. Costs were slightly above the original estimate but I believe they were honest in their approach and would not hesitate to use again.

Prompt, friendly and businesslike, Thomas checked out, assessed and estimated for repair of a dangerous broken step at the bottom of our common stairwell. Ahead of schedule and, at short notice, he resolved our problem to everyone's satisfaction. TJF Stonemasonry is local to the Canongate and we would be more than happy to avail ourselves of their splendid services again. Highly recommended.

Very happy with the work done by Thomas and his team. The work involved some plastic repairs (lithomex) to my tenement wall to fix an area of stone that had delaminated and crumbled away. It was quite an awkward spot to get to as the access scaffold had to be built on another flat roof and the repair itself was high level, just below the gutter line, but they done a great job and got it sorted despite some very windy weather. I would recommend to friends and call on them again if the need arises.

Thomas and his men repointed the front of our bungalow, repaired a stone widow sill and replaced some rendering. Despite the current covid situation causing a delay to the start of the work, the work was carried out efficiently and smoothly. I cannot fault the quality of the finish and the workmen were friendly and hard working. Overall we're very happy to have chosen Thomas for the work.

The front landing of our colony house was about to collapse and in need of urgent replacement. Several tradesmen looked at the situation but vey few appeared confident about being able to sort the problem.
Luckily Thomas and his team were able to remove the old landing and rebuild in-line with the building and steps connecting. Work was swift and professional and the end result looks great as well as being both safe and solid.

Stone walling altered and gate inserted in 6 ft high wall. Also dry stone walling repaired.

I've known of Tom Ferris and his work for some time. I have used him for private work on my property - which this review covers - but as a Trustee of a Grade A heritage property in the Borders, I have recommended and used him for work on that elevated level of craftsmanship. I have also seen his work on at least three other Grade A properties. I regularly recommend him to Boards of Trustees and private individuals who own heritage properties. He worked for me on a private project, creating a curved wall as part of a new remodelling of an area of my property. He produced a result that is frequently praised by those who see it for the first time.
