They did work at our house replacing a number of sandstone window sills and mullions.
I would absolutely recommend them.
Clear communication throughout. Very clear quotation with works broken down to easily understand pricing.
Workmanship is fantastic - great attention to detail and discussed the work with us daily as it progressed to ensure we were happy with it and aware of timescales.
Left the job very clean and tidy. We are delighted with the end result.
Will definitely be using again and have already recommended to a friend.

Paul provides a very professional job. He spends time ascertaining what is important to you as a customer and is open about the Costs involved. The workman sent to replace our mullion on a Victorian house were excellent, couldn't fault them. Rab loves to engage you in talking and explaining the stonemasons work. We had a few hiccups with the scaffolding but Paul smoothed things in a very professional way. Our whole street was very interested in the work and recommendations have been made.
Great job all round.

I used Newtown Stone Repairs when I had to get extensive damage to the stonework of my front windows repaired. There was a mixture of stone replacement and cosmetic repair involved. From the initial enquiry to the after care, these guys were prompt and professional. Not the cheapest on the market but it is a long term investment. The workmanship and finish are first class. There was an issue with the finish on one of the sills and they were back within the week to rectify. Will definitely use them again and would recommend. The results look fantastic and I am delighted.

Newtown Stone re-did the gable end of our old 1820's house which involved removed all the external render, removing all the concrete pointing that had been used and repointing completely in line mortar.
The work has just been completed and appears to be to a high standard - Paul was very proactive, responsive, helpful and timely with all communications.
The guys undertaking the pointing were experienced with this type of work and worked well and minimised the mess where possible. It took longer than expected but this was due to the existing dampness of the wall and the weather.
Very happy to recommend.

An old cement repair on the stone string course at the top of the front wall of our 1820s house had failed, and there was an urgent need for repair. Our neighbours had had the same problem and recommended Newtown Stone Repairs who had done a first class job. The whole team - Paul, Rab, Mo and James - were excellent to deal with, very professional, skilled and tidy. They are experienced stonemasons and take a pride in their work. Very highly recommended.

We had the “string course” of stone lying under the eaves of our house removed and replaced with new cut stone. Water damage over many years had badly eroded the old stone. It was a tricky job taking out the old stone and making sure the new stones fitted snugly and were shaped properly. Paul and his team were super efficient and took real pride in their work. They kept the mess to a minimum and swept up every evening. They carried the work out quickly and made sure the scaffolding was up for the minimum amount of time. The finished result looks great and we are happy we have got this tricky job completed by such a professional team of people.

We used Newtown Stone Repairs to repair a heavily deteriorated stone work at the entrance of our house. The stones needed to be replaced. Paul and his team did an excellent job. (See attached photos) the whole job was done in two days with no disruption to us at all. They were very pleasant and professional. They did what they said were going to do, always turning up on time, doing their work and tidying up afterwards. I will definitely use them again and would recommend without any reservations.

We live in a 1900 semi detached house in Edinburgh. The house has a large stone bay window that had several stones that had deteriorated and were leaking or holding water. In many places the lime mortar have fallen out or needed replaced.
Newtown Stone Repair replaced several sandstone blocks and did some lithomex repairs rounds water damaged stone and repaired all the lime mortar.
The front of the house is water tight again and looks looks brilliant. Not brand new but in keeping with the age of the house.
The owner is dedicated and was happy to contact on a Sunday. Dedicated to customer service.
His two stone masons one specialising in stone preparation and the other in lithomex application and finish were outstanding. They were great on site and took great care in all they worked in.
Would use them again.

I am very impressed with the work that Newtown Stone Repairs have completed on our tenement in Bruntsfield. The stonework was in a very poor state, crumbling and falling off, and had been filled in with concrete in the past, which made it even worse. But Paul and his team have completely transformed it!
Paul, the owner, was exceptional from the start. He explained everything to us in great detail, pointing out what was wrong and the various levels of work that could be done to fix it. His communication throughout the entire process was excellent. He kept in touch with updates and potential solutions to the problems, which was much appreciated.
The stonemasons who carried out the work were not only highly skilled and experienced tradesmen, but they were also incredibly friendly and helpful. They were consistently cheerful and went above and beyond to ensure that the job was done to the highest standard. They cleaned everything up after they finished and Paul even washed the dust off the windows himself at the end of the job. He even sent someone back after the job was completed to tie up some loose cables at the front of the tenement, which was a nice touch.
I can't recommend Newtown Stone Repairs highly enough. The work they did is absolutely outstanding and the service they provided was exceptional. I know that all the other flat-owners in my tenement are equally pleased with the results. I am extremely grateful to Paul and his team for their hard work and dedication. They have exceeded my expectations and I would not hesitate to use them again in the future.

We were having new windows installed and the lintel above our bay window was crumbling. We therefore needed a new lintel within a short timeframe as we already had an installation date for the windows. After a few false starts with masonry companies not sending quotes or submitting ridiculously high quotes, we contacted Paul at Newtown. He submitted a reasonable quote and was able to meet our timeframe. On the basis of the initial positive contact, we decided to also have the front of our bungalow repointed. We were lucky that Rab and Mo were assigned our job which they undertook over a few days. The new stone lintel was slotted in with little fuss and the pointing was done over a couple of days. Rab was extremely careful to make sure that he got the mortar colour right for us. The outcome was excellent. Good quality work from a great team.

Roof repairs: including restoration of stone-work; re-rendering and repair of a roof-level gable wall; re-bedding of chimney-pots; restoration and waterproofing of their base on the chimney-stack. Window repairs: including re-mortaring and re-masticating front and rear, along with replacement of decaying lintels and re-painting of all windows.
All roof and stone work was carried out efficiently and to a high standard, and Newtown Stone Repairs were also really efficient and helpful in organising good tradesmen to complete window-work and painting. Additionally, Newtown Stone Repairs explained work and requirements clearly at every stage. Very happy with Newtown Stone Repairs. We engaged them to undertake a sizeable stope repair project on our 1890s Edinburgh tenement. The project included replacing a significant number of full stones, lithomex repairs, stone cleaning and gutter clearing. Their attention to detail and craft was too quality and the masons are polite & friendly. I were particularly impressed by how clean and organised they kept the on-street worksite which minimised distribution to our neighbours. Their commutation was quick and responsive.

Over the years our 1906 listed building in the conservation area of Leith has suffered badly from the vagaries of the weather, traffic fume pollution and general wear and tear. We began to notice fragments of stone work detaching from the upper facade and our concern was that this was becoming dangerous. We approached several stone repair companies about this concern, mostly they were fine, some less so.
However Paul McDonald from Newtown Stone Repairs Ltd. calmly explained what was required to make the masonary safe and how this could be achieved. We were very aware that this was a small relatively new and young firm but were assured that they had the skills and knowledge necessary to undertake and complete the task. We were not looking for restoration in fact the brief was to 'make safe' but that said what we ended up with was to our minds restoration work of a high order.
Paul McDonald and the stone mason Craig Brown and stone restorer Craig Morris 'Mo' soon proved to be highly skilled craftsmen in fact we were incredibly impressed with the care and attention to detail they put into the work . They obviously took great pride in the work they did and this showed in the finish.
Unfortunatly the building is not fully repaired/restored, at this stage we limited the work to the upper third but if we are ever able to complete the job we would without hesitation use Newtown Stone Repairs Ltd.for this.

Needed an exterior step replacing - even though it was a relatively small job Paul took the time for a long phone call to discuss the problem and clearly lay out our options. The quote we got was good and communications were excellent - friendly and professional.
Also needed some ironwork done and Paul took it upon himself to get us a few different quotes for that and again laid out our options clearly and made sure we were happy with all aspects of the work. We also set a tight schedule as we had a baby on the way and the step was becoming hazardous. Paul made the effort to get it in for us before the due date which was very much appreciated.
Overall highly recommended - the work done seems excellent and can't fault the customer service.

A mullion had cracks in it on both sides and repair was not possible. Paul came and measured up and provided a quote which, compared with other quotes, was very acceptable. Because of his work load a start on the work would be several weeks away and there was also a delay from the quarry for the stone. Paul kept us up to date with the expected delivery of the stone and when he could start work. When he did eventually arrive, the work was done in a day (plus an hour the next morning) to a very high standard. He and his team were very tidy and cleaned up when they had finished, including the inevitable pallet that the new stone arrived on. We would have no hesitation in using Paul again or recommending him to anybody who wants a professional job of work carried out.

They were very considerate and respectful, tidying up every night and taking great care not to damage flower beds and pond.
Attention to detail was second to none: down to the mix of mortar used which is a sandier colour and really offsets our old bricks and the Lithomex colours carefully chosen to match our existing sills. The end result is really beautiful. Nobody else who came to quote for these jobs discussed these aspects with us.
Several neighbours have commented on how industrious and careful Mo was and what a good quality job it is; some have even approached Paul to carry out work for them.
Costs were more than other quotes but, for us, the quality of workmanship evidenced in the end result and the ease of dealing with Paul and Mo over a month-long project made it worthwhile.

Masonry stone replacement and repair across multiple areas of the property.
Paul and his team were extremely professional, always on time, hard working, tidy and respectful. Paul was very responsive, easy to communicate with and guided us through the process with sound recommendations and information. He was also patient with us when decisions had to be made.
The end result is excellent. The repairs sit very well against the original stonework.

Paul repointed the bottom half of a gable wall which had previously been pointed with concrete. It had caused some damage to the sandstone and was leading to dampness in the cellar.
Paul showed great attention to detail in the pointing and replaced a few stones which were significantly degraded. We were also impressed with how tidy the drive was left given the volume of concrete that had been dug out and the inevitable dust that was created.
Overall very reasonable price and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend his work.

We needed work done on the stonework on our building. Access was a challenge for us, and Paul was dogged in his determination to find a solution. He always arrived when he said he would, responded straightforwardly to my questions, offered detailed quotes and clearly took pride in his work. Our homes are amongst our most precious possessions, so it’s important to be able to trust those we employ to keep them safe and sound. I believe I was right in trusting Paul and his team to do a good job.

I live in a listed building which has very old and intricate stonework. Paul repointed our stonework so it matched the original but looked fresh. He also replaced the lintel and surrounding stonework on our balcony. All the work was carried out to a very high standard and in a timely manner. Paul is such a friendly, down to earth guy and I would not hesitate to recommend him.

Paul did a fantastic job of repairing the stone landing and steps outside my Colonies flat. He was friendly and easy to deal with, came when he said he would and was careful to consult with me and my neighbour at each step in the process. (He was also very tolerant of my dog running up and down the steps during the repairs!) The result is amazing: lovely colour and finish that blend perfectly with the old stonework. Very happy.
