Great service from J & E MacGregor. They removed the bath and installed a new shower in my small bathroom. The work was done to an excellent standard and the fitter took time to explain what he was doing at each stage and to demonstrate and test the shower before finishing. Trades were well co-ordinated and everything was left clean and tidy at the end of each day. It might be possible to find a cheaper bathroom fitter but I've had a couple of bad experiences with plumbers in the past and am delighted to have found a totally reliable company where everyone takes pride in their work and in looking after customers - this is what value for money means as far as I'm concerned.

I contacted J& E McGregor in September after referring to the Traders list.
I arranged a visit for December 2023, to install parts, to my Radiant gas fire. I had the parts in my garage for almost 10 months. The fire had been serviced by another Gas fire engineer, and at his advice, I had ordered the parts. Unfortunately he proved to be unreliable, after several further appointments were missed, my texts were unanswered.
I contacted Heather at J&E. . Michael came along on 8th December. He completed the work installing the new pilot ignition and central coal bed. It was not an easy job .
I was delighted to have my fire for Xmas.
I had to call him out today 3 January to check a problem with carbon alarm detector. I had called yesterday and left a message. I didn’t expect a visit, so promptly.
However, the problem was with the alarm , not the fire itself. Michael was very thorough, and re checked the fire for any issues. I am confident the fire is in good order. I will be booking a regular service from now on.

Annual central heating boiler service. We've used this company for a number of years and always been impressed with the quality and friendliness of the service.

Noise coming from pipes after running hot tap had been getting steadily worse and I was told by a different plumber it could be a very difficult job to fix. Called J&E MacGregor and they arranged for a plumber the following day. Plumber quickly diagnosed fault and replaced inlet pipe and pipe work. Took photos of work done to show me. All work completed quickly and efficiently.

Fixed a loose and leaking tap - came when said they would and did the job quickly and efficiently.

We had a kick plate heater under one of our kitchen units. This had seized up. The man from J & E MacGregor took the heater apart, cleaned and repaired it. This required a workman who knew what he was doing. A very efficient service

The plumbing supplying water to our washing machine was unconventional and not consistently providing the required pressure. This meant that the washing programme would frequently cancel itself or the wash wasn’t sufficiently rinsed. J&E MacGregor quickly identified the issue with the existing setup. Both the Admin. Manager and the Plumber we dealt with helpful and friendly. The job was completed in good time and at the prearranged time. We are happy with the work completed.

Replacement of heating valve. Excellent communication and arrived when they said they would. Really excellent value as well and will definitely use again.

Serviced my gas fire.
Pleasant engineer, proper protection, covered shoes and made sure area was covered before he started. Stripped out the fire, cleaned thoroughly. Smoke test - changed the batteries, put it all back together, again tested in all the different stages, tested the quantity of gas in the outside meter. Explained everything along the way., very interesting and thank you. Office staff very pleasant too.

Needed an emergency plumber for my elderly parents and J & E MacGregor did not let me down. Have used before and will definitely use again. Reliable, professional and very understanding of our situation.

Any work undertaken by J &E MacGregor has always been to high standards whether it be a boiler check or actual plumbing works.
Recently I had maintenance work carried out on a number of fittings in the house….new taps, new radiator, bath fittings and Mr Euan MacGregor provided advice and help and came to assess what needed to be done. The quotation was very reasonable, agreed, parts ordered and a date set. The plumber who undertook the works, Gabrielle was a friendly soul and got on with the various jobs to be done which sometimes had their challenges. His attitude was “where there is a will, there is a way” and he was resourceful getting all the jobs done.
Gabrielle was also very tolerant of our very interested family pet dog.

We have used this firm for years and always found them reliable and honest about what can or cannot be done.
Last week I found a puddle of water on the floor with a steady drip coming from the bottom of an adjacent radiator. I phoned the firm at about 9am and spoke to Ewan MacGregor - by 4pm on the same day, the radiator had been replaced. The following morning, I had a call from Ewan to make sure that no further problems had occurred (the system had needed to be drained and refilled and the boiler repressurised).
I thought all this was exemplary service, esecially considering their backlog of work post Covid lockdown.

My boiler broke before Christmas and couldn’t get anyone out despite having no heating and hot water. Following the festive break I contacted the company and within a day they were out to quote for the work. After being appointed Euan was brilliant getting things arranged, and within a week of having contacted them I have a brand new working boiler. The team have been great throughout the whole process and would definitely use them again.

J & E MacGregor's engineer replaced one faulty thermostatic radiator valve. I noted the time the engineer arrived. As he left, I remarked that I was glad the job had only taken thirty-five minutes. I had been informed house calls were charged at £65.00 + VAT per hour. The invoice I received was £89.00 + VAT for one and a half hours' labour and £32.00 plus VAT for the thermostatic valve, which I later found could be purchased at Screwfix for £18.29 including VAT. I complained to Mr Ewan MacGregor who explained that their company vans were fitted with a monitoring system and calls were priced according to the amount of time their van was parked at a customer's address. I was offered a thirty pounds discount, which I accepted, but since I am not happy with this means of charging, I won't be using the company again.

I used J&E MacGregor to install a new boiler for my central heating system. They discussed my needs, explained what was required, gave me a price and installed the boiler in time to allow me to move into my new house. Throughout, they were courteous, helpful, reassuring and prompt. I recommend them warmly.

This trader carried out a basic plumbing repair to my WC. Half an hour after the plumber left there was water all over the floor. There is no out of hours number for this firm so from 4.30 on Friday until 8.30 on Monday it is not possible to contact them to tell them of a problem. We had no WC for 5 days. The fault was fixed simply by putting in a seal that should have been there in the first place. In contacting the firm to query whether any discount had been applied to the invoice they clarified that did not charge for the second visit but the flatly refused to accept that there had been anything wrong with the work carried out the first time. No apology for inconvenience. No discount. Most annoying the refusal to admit that a mistake was made. Very poor customer service and sloppy work.

I have used this company several times now. They are so reliable and turn up when they say they will. The quality of their work is second to none and their prices are very acceptable.

New radiators and a new combi boiler had to be fitted and pipework for gas and water had to be replaced under existing wooden flooring. Turned out to be a more complex job than was anticipated, but with the assistance of a skilled joiner who carefully cut a few hatches and almost invisibly replaced the flooring the heating engineers of MacGregor did a great job. We highly recommend this company.

J &E MacGregor has carried out several jobs in my property. Service has always been reliable and workmanship of good quality.

However to charge circa £178 for a straightforward supply and fit of an outside tap is vastly overpriced, including circa £58 for material.

I asked J & E MacGregor Plumbing & Heating to replace a macerator after another plumber registered in the Trusted Trader website repeatedly failed to keep his words and didn't do any follow-ups.
J & E MacGregor Plumbing & Heating gave me a detailed quote and they were very flexible on their works.
On the day of the work, the plumber was very pleasant and cleaned up the area the macerator was replaced.
I'm very happy with their work and definitely ask them another work in future.

I asked J and E MacGregor for a quote to refurbish my bathroom and cloakroom.

From start to finish they were reliable (yes, they turned up when they said they would - every time!), polite, trustworthy, as clean and tidy as they could be under the circumstances and extremely flexible.
