Faulty back door lock that was promptly repaired

He was able to quickly diagnose the issue and then fix the lock very quickly for a good price. Hero Locksmith by name & nature. Unlucky for me I have a flat with dodgy locks and had to call Richard out twice in five months. On both occasions he was super quick to reply and respond. I particularly like how he tried to diagnose the problem over the phone (e.g. Are you using a poorly cut copy of the master key? Have you tried the master key and does it work better? Which would save me the expense of changing a lock). An all round honest, nice guy that gets the job done. Couldn’t ask for more.

In my experience, people only review the service they have received, off of their own backs, if the service is either above average or really bad and they want people to know or to warn others. I am thankfully in the first group.

Having found this locksmith's (Richard's) number on google, because my door was not closing from the outside, I asked for a fix if possible or a new lock if that was not possible.

I would have had to go with what I was told as I do not have a clue about locks so when he came and told me he could fix it and fix it for under £100, I was delighted. Hence this review.

My French Door was out of alignment and we had trouble locking the door so I phoned Hero Locksmiths based on the reviews I had read and I can say I wasn’t disappointed. I explained over the phone what the problem was and Richard gave me a price which I felt was very reasonable and arranged to come the next day he phoned a couple of hours later and arranged to come the same day. He was polite and friendly and very respectful to my property and fixed everything that needed done fast and efficiently. I would definitely make Richard my first call in the future for any other work I need done and would not hesitate to recommend him to family and friends. It’s nice to know there is still reliable, honest tradesmen out there.

Back door lock u/s. He was at my house within the hour, renewed the gearbox, worked fine for a couple of weeks then seized again. Phoned him and he was at my house in half an hour, thought new gear box was faulty but on stripping out found ok. Could not explain what went, he renewed the lock etc. He charged me nothing for new lock and call out. He was a very pleasant nice man, Old School. I would have no hesitation in recommending him to my friends and family. There's still honest people out there.

Great service from a local business, would certainly recommend. My front (UPVC) door lock had broken in that the key simply spun around (but the door was closed and locked). This was not the easiest job to solve, the old lock had to be drilled out. Everything done, and new lock installed in just over an hour of arriving. Richard also realigned the door, so that it would lock easier in the future. Cost seemed quite reasonable given the parts fitted and time taken. Richard himself was very friendly, and showed / explained everything to me.

Put up with dodgy handle on front door for a while but it was getting impossible to lock so got in touch with Richard he pretty much diagnosed the problem over the phone gave me a price and arranged to come round next morning,very pleasant guy and went about his work in a professional manner,fixed the problem for us and insisted we tested the door before he left,extremely happy with the job he done and the amount we paid ,would definitely recommend

I contacted Richard on Sunday morning after googling a local locksmith and saw all the brilliant reviews.

He replied to my email within an hour and had provided a quote and was booked in to come see us on the Tuesday.

He arrived on time and explained everything he was going to do and also provided advice on what we thought was a broken lock requiring replacement (just needed a new key). He could have easily replaced the lock and charged £50+. Very honest and just what you would hope everyone would do (but they dont).

I had just moved into a new flat and being a bit dim didn't know how the lock worked properly. Richard came out promptly and it took him under a minute to sort the issue (key stuck in the lock). Not only that, he then checked the door and lock mechanism and refused to accept full hourly payment (if it had been a large company they would have fleeced me I'm sure). Very decent chap and will certainly use Hero again if needed. Also, I like to use local traders but like many very diligent in checking out the credentials and reviews. All is above board and all the good reviews certainly mirror my experience!

I had an out of hours issue where my door handle broke and I was locked out of my flat. Richard arrived in under 20 minutes from when I called him, he got the job done quickly and efficiently, and charged a completely fair price. I found out that I lost my key when i was traveling back to Edinburgh after visiting family 500 miles away.
I contacted Richard in the train on my way back to Edinburgh, and picked his company because of the good reviews, and because he immediately responded to my phone call. I did not have to leave a message or fill in a form to get a quote or go through an endless menu on the phone.
When I finally arrived after a looooong journey, he was at my place at the time we arranged, changed the lock and got me back in the house within 10 minutes.

Very friendly service - Richard called me back on the same day I emailed, told me what the basic charge would be and made sure I was OK with that prior to the visit. He gave me a rough idea of when he'd visit, and on the arranged day he phoned to let me know he was on his way.

I broke a handle on a PVC window straight after moving in to a new house on a Friday evening. It was fixed straight away and this allowed me to secure the property. Richard was friendly, fast,and great value for money. I asked him back to replace a front door lock. Again the service was top notch. Would recommend.

My front door handle locking mechanism was becoming increasingly stiff to open and close and I couldn't work out what the problem was. The locksmith was at the house within 20 minutes of being contacted.
He replaced the lock after cutting through the lock in order to open the door. He cut the extra keys I needed in his van which is a real bonus as he checked they were all working.
He was efficient, professional and I would use him again. His charge for the whole job was very reasonable.

Called for some advice regarding what I needed to satisfy my new house insurance. Richard came out same day, phoned in advance to check I was in, and looked at the doors and windows I was querying. I got locked out of my flat and wanted him to come and get through the door and then replace the locks which I think one was a mortise and one was a yale type. The yale one he managed to open without damaging it, but the only way through the mortise one was to drill it out. He did that, got the door open and then fitted a new one. I asked him to replace the yale one at the same time while he was here which he did [this wasn't required it was just my preference]. He also cut 4 pairs of extra spare keys for me and tested them all. [2 keys were included for each lock already, I just prefer to have a lot of spare keys]. I often feel very anxious with people coming to my flat, but he was really friendly and happy to help. I've used him a few times now. He was easy to contact on the phone and arrived really quickly.

Richard was very easy to get ahold of - always quick to answer or calls back promptly if he's unable to. He came out to the address within an hour of being called to replace a lock on the front door which was sorted in 15 minutes.

Price was very fair and done quickly with a bank transfer.

Richard also had a quick look at a loose fitting interior lock (missing a screw) and sorted that without any extra charge.

I later decided I wanted an extra couple of keys cut and he asked, as it was dinner time, if I could head to his residence to meet him at his van which was totally understandable. He didn't hesitate to pop out and cut the keys there and then in 5 minutes.

I 'phoned on a Saturday before Xmas and expected to leave a message to advise I was having difficulty with the lock. The 'phone was answered by Richard. Within 45 minutes he was at the door. Called asking for help with regards to a broken lock. I asked if he could come at a specific time which he did. He called in advance to make sure it was still convenient. Advised what the problem was and gave me a few different options as to how to rectify the situation. Called Richard, 3 months later as I was locked out of my flat, he provided a telephone quote and arrived within an hour. Removed and replaced mortice deadlock and I was back in my flat quickly. No damage to door and new keys cut, professional service, highly recommend - wouldn't hesitate to call again.

Have used Richard on a couple of occasions for different jobs. Most recent one was pretty complex, for a bespoke door on an old property. He was very reliable and went out of his way to get the work done at a time that suited me. Would happily recommend. He presents as a very trustworthy and nice person.

I had several quotes to change the lock on a communal stairwell and Richard's was significantly cheaper than the others. He quickly assessed the problem during a telephone conversation and advised, contrary to other locksmiths I spoke to, that it was only the barrel that needed replaced, not the entire unit.

He was happy to carry out the work on a Saturday morning and arrived punctually. He replaced the barrel, cut keys for all the residents and tested them, all within 40 minutes. Job done!
