Over the past four years we have dealt with three different roofing firms in Edinburgh ... all registered with Edinburgh Trusted Trader ... all trying to fix our very old leaking roof (i.e. failed skews / missing tiles etc).

Our repair was actually two repairs. At first because we had evidence of a couple of leaks coming through into the living areas of our double upper Colony in Abbeyhill. The second repair was on our Chimney which was showing signs of crumbling and cracking. Then out of the blue with all the rain we sprung another two leaks.

After obtaining another Quote on the works and having met a couple of couldn't care less Roofing Companies it was so refreshing to meet Denis who arrived promptly and who was so polite and professional. Denis knows his stuff and has a great knowledge of all aspects of work needed in his chosen profession. Having myself worked a lifetime in the building trade and talking to him I realised he knew what he was doing.

He explained the options open to us and at no time gave us any stress regarding the required works. We were shown the photos and he explained in great detail the works and options open to us. Nothing was too much bother. Denis and his family-run business I would recommend to everyone out there but especially to the many Colony dwellers dotted around the City as he knows how these old buildings with their old Scottish Slates work. This aspect in itself is a very skilled profession and he has worked very hard to achieve his pass in the work. Not all roofers know how to repair them professionally. Five stars to you Denis.

Gallen Roofing were the preferred bidder for works to the roof of our tenement building. I am on the top floor and had water ingress to my apartment, so I was most grateful for Gallen coming to inspect immediately.

The roof area needed a range of works including replacement of broken tiles; clearing overgrown guttering and downpours as well as replacement of flashings.

Gallen Roofing repaired the roof on my dormer extension where I had a leak, replaced several slates and cleaned the gutters.
Dennis came very quickly after my request for an estimate. He took several photos of the roof to show me where the problems were and what was required.
Although I had to wait a few weeks for the work to be done, I am very pleased with everything. Again, Dennis took lots of photos, both during and after the work, and went through them all to show me exactly what they had done. He then sent me the photos for future reference.

Denis came swiftly to my aid after two of my zinc valleys were letting in water. The slating prior was very poor and the old valleys were showing signs of decay.

When Denis came originally, his knowledge, expedience and kind nature truly was leaps and bounds above the rest. I had numerous companies come out to view the issues and I can say almost every one didn’t have the answers I was looking for like Denis did. Nor did they seem that interested, only caring about the next house they were viewing.

Denis provided me with clear and detailed information and advice on what I should be doing. He gave me different options instead of just a blunt quotation. He also provided me with pictures and videos of the areas of ingress so I could visibly see and understand the exact problems on my property.

After receiving my quotation very promptly, with the different options. I decided that I would replace the bottom section of zinc valleys and re slate a half of my pitch which was needing serious attention!

The men were here, on time every single morning for 3 days. They hardly took a break and when offered a cup of tea they were politely declining to crack on with the job at hand. As you can see pictured below, is my new section of roof. The valleys look brilliant and the slating is awesome. Still can’t believe how they can cut the slate so straight!

Excellent customer service! We've had Denis out a few times now for repeated leaks and each time he's been really thorough and explained everything really well. He's able to come by quickly and shows photos of what's going on in the roofing space and on the roof.

We live in a three-story block, and we had a roof leak. We contacted many companies; however, only Gallen Roofing met our expectations. Dennis, who came to provide the quote, was punctual, polite, very informative, and professional. He put a lot of effort into assessing the situation and even agreed to conduct a water test to ensure our satisfaction after the job was completed. We would use again, without hesitation. Denis was super enthusiastic, and knows his stuff. He'll show you loads of photographs which is (a) interesting, and (b) great at building trust about the scope of the work.

What was refreshing was he didn't try to upsell us. Our problem was water was sometimes running down the walls, near the chimneys. He showed us photos of the water pitting on the lead, which needed replaced due to age. Then, Denis almost seemed sorry to advise us we should also get the saddles rebuilt, if we wanted long term reliable waterproofing. We already knew how much it can cost to do short term repairs every couple years, so it made sense for us to rebuild now, to a high quality. But I'm glad it was (a) our choice, and (b) they didn't try to sell on replacing the whole roof.

After we agreed the quote, the work was booked in. It was carried out by him and his team, to a high standard. There were no nasty surprises.

It was reassuring to see, again from the photos, that the new bits were built high quality and to modern standards. For example, the contrast of the new felt to the old perished felt, and the battens which weren't there before. (Photos of before, during, after). Soon enough it rained, testing that the roof was indeed fixed.

Replace watergate and membrane .The work was first class and carried out quickly and efficiently.After torrential rains recently there was no leaks at all.Also the scaffold was removed within days which was great.
