The decorative balustrade outside our Morningside flat was requiring significant attention and to get it repaired, we approached three masonry firms. All three specified that it was requiring to be totally rebuilt & provided costings on that basis.
AB Mearns not only provided us with confidence that they could do a good job but they also did so at a cost significantly less than the others, including providing new matching stone to replace a badly eroded pillar.

The work carried out on the front of our house was done quickly, efficiently and as quoted. The builders were prompt, courteous and left the garden tidy at the end of the job. I also appreciated that I wasn’t asked for a deposit or part-payment before they started work. My minor snagging item was carried out quickly, without debate or additional charge.

The work required on our property was substantial (roughly £75,000 worth) and it also posed a danger to the public so it was imperative that it was fixed promptly. That being said, the council threw every difficulty they could at us and I can only thank Andy for his pragmatism and excellent communication throughout which was crucial to our success. His quote was very reasonable given what we had received from others and he was never hard to get a hold of, explaining any issues and keeping us abreast of developments.

They worked well with the other tradesmen involved (scaffolder and council representatives) and above all did a fantastic job. The front of our building spans an entire corner street, 3 storeys high, with some difficult to reach areas, not to mention it’s also very old. I am so thankful that our masonry issues are now over and we can sleep at night knowing the public is not in any danger.

A. B Mearns did an excellent job of rebuilding garden walls and gates, which were destroyed by a car driving into them.

I’m in a conservation area and they used appropriate materials for the work, re-using the old stone and ironwork wherever possible. They kindly sourced an original iron gate for me ( not in the quote) and were happy to answer any queries or requests.

The stonemasons were unfailingly polite, tidy and professional and Mr Mearns regularly called in or phoned to check that I was happy with things. Any issues were promptly sorted and the work was completed on time to a very high standard.

They even attended a meeting with the Council Planning department, well after work was finished, to reassure them that proper stone had been used for the work.

The finished product looks great and there have been many, many compliments about it. I’m very happy and highly recommend the company.
