Business Information
My name is John Mullan and I'm a retired fire officer with 30 years' service and an additional 16 years as a Building and Facilities Manager in Glasgow's City Park.
I sell and fit interlinked smoke and fire detectors conforming to Scottish Government regulations introduced in February 2022 and now required in all homes by law. Insurance companies also invariably have a clause in the contract to the effect that the property complies with Building Regulations.
These radio frequency alarms are installed at very reasonable prices, typically £140 to £175, without mess or the need for expensive electrical work, and usually within a day or two of ordering. I'm happy to give an estimate on the phone and can take calls between 9.00am and 9.00pm.

My previous smoke alarms/heat alarm had a fault and sounded without there being fire or smoke in the flat. I found John Mullan's details online and phoned him on Tuesday 27/8/24. He gave an appointment for Thursday 29/8/24. He replaced the faulty alarms quickly and efficiently and took away the faulty ones to dispose of appropriately. The charge is very reasonable for the product and work involved.

Johns done a variety of jobs for us over last few years; fitting lights, smoke alarms and building flat pack furniture. All fine to a good standard. However he cancelled our last job suddenly, but accepted work from a friend of mine. We feel very let down by this and can’t recommend him now.

I needed two old smoke alarms removed and new ones fitted to my home to comply with new Government guidelines. When I phoned John Mullan he was clear and upfront about the cost of the products, which included fitting and VAT. I was surprised and delighted when he agreed to visit my home the very next day to fit the alarms, and he fitted these quickly and without any mess. John is a very pleasant man and a skilled trader. He explained in easy to understand terms how to use the products, e.g., what to do in the event the alarm should sound and how to reset it, when I should phone the emergency services if I felt it necessary, and he suggested I phone his number if I thought there was a fault with one of the alarms. I would have no hesitation in recommending him to my friends and family for similar work.

I found John’s services on this website and decided to call him to help me fit interlinked alarms in my home. He fit me in, in the next couple of days and came at the time he said he would. Friendly and professional at the same time and fitted them with no problems and great speed. Would highly recommend.

Called John Mullan to have interlinked fire alarm system fitted. He was pleasant and provided the necessary information and was available to fit the system on a short notice.

We have asked John to do jobs round our apartment in Glasgow for years now. As we both don’t live near family, John is an absolute hero and helps us so much with jobs we can’t do ourselves! Mr Mullan arrived the the time agreed. He came prepared with steps to access the high ceilings with my home. The work was carried out quickly and with great efficiency. He was able to answer questions and to provide advice.

John fitted the new interconnecting smoke detectors for both myself and my mum’s homes. He was very prompt, did the job quickly, left no mess and charged a very reasonable prices.
He also built some wardrobes for me a few years ago and again last week for another room. Yet again a great job done and I highly recommend John. Would definitely use him again.

I continue to carry on with my smoke alarm business, which does not involve heavy work and can be done using lightweight electric screwdrivers which are easily gripped.
The work I carried out for her friend, a previous customer, involved replacing two screws on a door intercom (not fitted by me) and was carried out without charge as it involved only a few minutes of my time.
I'm am so disappointed with this negative review as I always had a good relationship, with very fair pricing, with this customer, and am a loss to understand the reason for it.
