Business Information
First established in 1988, we are a local, family owned and ran company. We carry out landscaping projects both large and small for residential clients throughout the Lothians. We undertake a variety of gardens from initial design through the whole installation process to completion. We are TREX COMPOSITE DECKING PRO INSTALLERS - see Trex.com - and fit and supply both both timber and TREX composite decks, driveways, patios, walls, turfing and artificial grass installation, fencing, gravel and all forms of soft planting.
We also maintain and manage residential and private estates. We own machinery ranging from pedestrian to ride-on mowers with collection, out front ride-on mowers and tractors with mounted mowers. We currently own a Kubota F3680 61" out front mower, a John Deere 1545 62" out front mower, a Kubota F3090 60" with flail mower, a Kubota G21 48" and a Kubota G23 48" mid mounted mowers with collection and a Kubota L4240 tractor with 12' Trimax mower attached. All mowers are operated by trained staff giving the best, professional finish.
Our eldest son Lewis joined the company in 2016 and has excelled. His younger brother Ben joined in 2019 and they will form the future of the company. Initially called Philip Mitchell Landscaping, to reflect the input and the future ownership, in 2020 we decided to change the company name. Therefore as of February 2020 the trading name of the company was changed to Mitchell Landscaping and Ground Care Limited.

We have maintained the grounds of Gosford House for 30 years. We use several different machines for the different lawns throughout the estate.
Client wanted to changed a large 150 square metre patio to a more modern composite decked terrace. With additional planters, artificial grassed utility area and gravel grids.

Philip and crew removed existing planting, which was considerable, replaced existing fencing, installed a new deck and new border planting.

Phil has transformed our front garden by replacing the gravel, grass and old fencing. We are delighted with the results and have had many compliments from neighbours. Phil was punctual, well organised and good humoured. He was happy to give advice re the design, and had the ability to resolve existing garden problems. We would definitely use him again and would highly recommend him and his team.

Phil was contacted to give a quote for garden works to allow access to the garden for someone with limited mobility. He arrived on time and was pleasant and courteous throughout. He provided sound advice on the best materials to use and suggestions to enhance access. He managed to start earlier than anticipated and he and the boys worked hard each day to achieve great results. They were always on time and tidy and have done a great job in a short timescale. Would definitely recommend them.

The work was completed to a very high standard. The garden gate was designed and constructed on site. We are very pleased with finished look of the job, not only with the new gate but also the sturdy new gate posts and partial fencing work.
This is the second time we have engaged this company to complete projects in our property and we have found Phil and his sons to have a very high standard of workmanship which is always consistent. They take a pride in their work and this shows in the finished job.

We engaged PML to totally redesign, and replace decking in the rear garden. Phil and his son carried out the work in a very professional manner. They arrived on time each day and completed the job on the date specified. All the old decking was removed from the site and the garden was left neat and tidy. The finished work exceeded our expectations.
They had really good innovative ideas for the design, our favourite being the beautifully built large planters.
The invoice was actually under the quote which shows the honesty of the contractor and we would have no hesitation in recommending this business.

Driveway paving and new timber fence. Designed new shaped front driveway. Prepared surface and removed old driveway paving. Lay geotextile membrame to full area and installed 107 square metres of Stone Market Trident pavers, edging and soak away pebbles to front garden. Removed old and built new two step rectangle platform to front door. Erected new timber fence.

A new build garden on a horrendous slope! Garden was terraced with artificial grass, decking, planters and paving. Fences either erected or made private: Philip and his men worked tirelessly. Philip made the plan for the garden and it looks wonderful. The builder left an awful slope but the garden is now level. I can now maintain the garden thanks to them. It is lovely and my grandchildren love it too! Thank you.

Prepared a new build house garden which was just soil and made a paved patio and path all round the house, pebble borders and a slated and pebble maintenance free feature design in the back garden: Phil was really helpful and professional at every point in the process. I was a bit of a nuisance client having not done a garden before and having only just moved in, I hadn't fully thought through my plans at the outset, and as a result I had quite a few questions and changes to request as things occurred to me. Phil was so polite and patient throughout and re-drafted the plans to suit using his excellent knowledge of the construction practicalities and his good eye for design to produce a garden which is both functional and attractive. I am absolutely delighted with the result. The work was done on time and without any mess or disruption. I had absolutely no worries about leaving the firm to do the work while I was in the office. I would definitely recommend.

To lay bark and pebbles to borders: Work was due to be started when we would be on holiday. Phil visited prior to our holiday to discuss exact work to be done. Arrived back and was delighted at work already done. Garden is now exactly as we wanted it. Visitors have all admired the work. We were especially pleased with the disguising of some very ugly manhole covers.
