Business Information
First established in 1988, we are a local, family owned and ran company. We carry out landscaping projects both large and small for residential clients throughout the Lothians. We undertake a variety of gardens from initial design through the whole installation process to completion. We are TREX COMPOSITE DECKING PRO INSTALLERS - see Trex.com - and fit and supply both both timber and TREX composite decks, driveways, patios, walls, turfing and artificial grass installation, fencing, gravel and all forms of soft planting.
We also maintain and manage residential and private estates. We own machinery ranging from pedestrian to ride-on mowers with collection, out front ride-on mowers and tractors with mounted mowers. We currently own a Kubota F3680 61" out front mower, a John Deere 1545 62" out front mower, a Kubota F3090 60" with flail mower, a Kubota G21 48" and a Kubota G23 48" mid mounted mowers with collection and a Kubota L4240 tractor with 12' Trimax mower attached. All mowers are operated by trained staff giving the best, professional finish.
Our eldest son Lewis joined the company in 2016 and has excelled. His younger brother Ben joined in 2019 and they will form the future of the company. Initially called Philip Mitchell Landscaping, to reflect the input and the future ownership, in 2020 we decided to change the company name. Therefore as of February 2020 the trading name of the company was changed to Mitchell Landscaping and Ground Care Limited.

We are delighted with the smart new decking and stylish banisters. Phil Mitchell and sons worked studiously in a chilly week in November to install the new decking. They are hard working, professional, highly reliable and excellent to work with.

Phil and team built a new fence, back gate and trex decking, as well as generally sprucing up the garden.
Throughout the project Phil and co were extremely professional, kept me updated and really efficient. The work is really high standard and we’ve had compliments on it already as well as neighbours and friends asking for details of who done the work for their own jobs.

We approached Mitchell Landscaping to do considerable composite decking in our East Lothian garden. From initial contact to finalising work this Father and sons company were professional and good to have around. Our original decking plan evolved on site and is, very attractively, on 4 levels. The composite decking quality is outstanding, I have a couple of irks with how some of the filling in is done, a few small pieces run against grain, but Phil tells me that’s the product rather than his intention.

Phil and his team lifted old artificial grass, replaced it with turf, lifted and disposed of two old decking areas, replaced the large area with composite decking and designed a lovely seat and planters for the smaller area.

Work was actually done for my Dad but he is delighted with the workmanship, professionalism and reliability of the full team. They kept the area clean, tidy and safe for my Dad even under awful weather conditions. They were delayed in starting due to the weather but I was kept up to date with expected times etc. The final finish is of a high standard and although only finished yesterday we have already had a ew neighbours saying how good the garden now looks.

Phil and his team replaced our flat roof balcony decking, removing the old rotten timber decking and installing new Trex composite decking. Not only were they accommodating with suitable time to carry out the works, but they did a great job working quickly through the various stages. Following a first class experience of Phil and his team last year, when they erected new fencing in our garden, they recently returned to do some landscaping and planting at the fences.
In particular, we had a very problematic slope at the bottom of the front garden, which was difficult to maintain and was overgrown with weeds. We asked Phil for some ideas and recommendations to deal with the slope.
From a very basic discussion, Phil has landscaped and transformed the area. We are absolutely delighted with the result and have had lots of complements from everyone who has seen it.
Once again, all of the work has been completed to the highest standard, the team have gone the extra mile and are a real pleasure to deal with.
We would have no hesitation in recommending them.

Phil's team removed our old patio and other slabs in the back garden and also removed numerous large overgrown bushes. A new, larger, patio was then laid and replanting in approximately 2/3rds of the garden is to be done. They are extremely professional and pleasant to deal with. The work done is of a very high standard. We are absolutely delighted with the result and would have no hesitation in recommending them.

I hired Phil to landscape my very scruffy gravel/paved/weed-infested driveway! They clear what was there, excavated and created a beautiful driveway with gravel using a gravel stabilising system, installed drain covers, edging etc! Phil and his son did a fantastic job - 100% satisfied customer! They arrived when they said they would, kept me updated all the way through and even the snow and rain didn't delay things too much! They also trimmed my hedge and cleared the cuttings away, which was a very last minute request from me! Highly skilled at what they do, explained things to me in layman's terms, extremely tidy workers, thoughtful and friendly too! I cannot fault their work or their work ethic. Highly recommend - 5*!

Mitchell Landscaping have created a lovely, bright paved patio area in our back garden. We are delighted with the results. The team were friendly, courteous, punctual, hard working and efficient. They cleared the old paving as they went and were clean tidy workers. They transformed the area in less than 1.5 days. Phil and his son did a great job repairing and replacing my front garden fence after a bin lorry had driven through and destroyed it. From the start, Phil was great to communicate with and was happy to take on the job. Other companies I’d spoken to were reluctant to do the job as it was an insurance claim. We have used Phil before on several occasions and had no worries about having him refurbish an area of the garden into composite decking. His suggestions about materials and layout was spot on.

We contacted Mitchell Landscaping and Ground Care to request an estimate to have artificial grass laid in our garden. Phil arrived at our house at exactly the time he stated on his reply. He was very polite, and professional in the manner he reviewed our work requirements offering constructive suggestions and ideas.
After accepting his quote he turned up with his two assistants on the date and time arranged to lay the turf. They worked in a very structured manner obviously being very experienced in this type of work and were very polite and friendly people to have working in your property.

I have used Mitchell Landscaping before and was happy to use them again. They relaid a large patio (not originally laid by them), laid a brick edging, cut back a hedge and repaired a wooden fruit cage. As ever, the work was of a high standard. Phil and Lewis transformed an ugly duckling wall into a thing of beauty, which has also transformed our garden. We were consulted, offered ideas and choices on what might work best and given excellent recommendations and advice, both on the material and installation.

The work started as planned with a Q & A session to ensure we were happy with the scope and completed efficiently and timeously. The worksite was cleared of old fencing and left in a clean and tidy condition. Altogether, a job very well done by a diligent, polite and professional team.

Phil arranged for a a firm of tree surgeons to remove the trees and then he and his team removed and erected a new 2m high fence. Phil and his team built a driveway and completely landscaped the back garden.
From the beginning Phil was punctual and provided good advice and feedback on our plans.
Once work started Phil incorporated a modification request from myself with no trouble.
The end result being a fine looking driveway and low maintenance, great looking back garden, both finished to a high standard.
I can't recommend Phil enough and will definitely be seeking Phil's services for more work we have planned.

I had new fencing and a redesign of the rear garden done. The garden now boasts a pergola, a mixture of raised and regular flower beds, artificial grass, which has been edged with cobbled stones and new paving. Phil and his boys were reliable, professional and hardworking. They were friendly and remained good humoured despite working in some pretty awful weather conditions.

We've had Phil do work for us before and not only is his work and manner highly professional, his previous work has endured for years and still looks great. On this occasion we had him do a complete makeover of a sizeable rear and side garden for elderly inlaws which involved laying a lot of turf, building some fences, some decking, slabbing, raised beds and laying a lot of chips. Basically Phil completely transformed a massive area from a moss and weed ridden mess to a proper garden of incredibly high standard in about a week - even dealing admirably and diplomatically with some of the problems caused by 'lesser jobs' done for us by other tradesmen we'd had in. Cant praise Phils work highly enough - we already have plans to get him in to do some more work in future.

I had a clear idea of what I wanted to achieve with our front garden, and had drawn a scale plan - but I had no idea whether it was practical. At all stages, Phil listened to my ideas, offered constructive and practical suggestions and ultimately through his skill and hard work, turned my plan into a reality. I really appreciated Phil's time in discussing materials, options and solutions to some of the unforeseen issues that cropped up, and felt that he was focussed on giving us the garden we wanted - at no time did I feel as though anything was too much trouble. Communication was excellent at all times - from the first site visit to the end of the project, and he was totally reliable. Overall the quality of the hard landscaping is very good and the price was fair and competitive with other companies who quoted for the work.

Phil was contacted to give a quote for garden works to allow access to the garden for someone with limited mobility. He arrived on time and was pleasant and courteous throughout. He provided sound advice on the best materials to use and suggestions to enhance access. He managed to start earlier than anticipated and he and the boys worked hard each day to achieve great results. They were always on time and tidy and have done a great job in a short timescale. Would definitely recommend them.

We engaged PML to totally redesign, and replace decking in the rear garden. Phil and his son carried out the work in a very professional manner. They arrived on time each day and completed the job on the date specified. All the old decking was removed from the site and the garden was left neat and tidy. The finished work exceeded our expectations.
They had really good innovative ideas for the design, our favourite being the beautifully built large planters.
The invoice was actually under the quote which shows the honesty of the contractor and we would have no hesitation in recommending this business.

A new build garden on a horrendous slope! Garden was terraced with artificial grass, decking, planters and paving. Fences either erected or made private: Philip and his men worked tirelessly. Philip made the plan for the garden and it looks wonderful. The builder left an awful slope but the garden is now level. I can now maintain the garden thanks to them. Prepared a new build house garden which was just soil and made a paved patio and path all round the house, pebble borders and a slated and pebble maintenance free feature design in the back garden: Phil was really helpful and professional at every point in the process. I was a bit of a nuisance client having not done a garden before and having only just moved in, I hadn't fully thought through my plans at the outset, and as a result I had quite a few questions and changes to request as things occurred to me. Phil was so polite and patient throughout and re-drafted the plans to suit using his excellent knowledge of the construction practicalities and his good eye for design to produce a garden which is both functional and attractive. I am absolutely delighted with the result. The work was done on time and without any mess or disruption. I had absolutely no worries about leaving the firm to do the work while I was in the office. I would definitely recommend.
