Elderly, frail parents required bathroom conversion to a shower, as unable to use bath. Kevin was extremely helpful and patient with them, going to great lengths to ensure they understood what was planned, and would meet their needs, and helping choose appropriate shower cubicle, flooring etc. The work was done within a good timescale, at a fair price, and on time. All the team on site were very pleasant, tidy and considerate, and the finished work is excellent quality with every little detail as planned. In fact a small piece of additional work done at no extra cost.
Have used them before for my own house, for a boiler replacement, and would highly recommend them.

Work was some bathroom upgrades - a new sink and unit, new toilet and new bath panel.
Experience was very good - when coming out to quote and then planning in the job, they did everything they said they would, when they said they'd do it - exactly what you want!
On-site Kevin and John were friendly and professional and even though there were a couple of unexpected extra little jobs which needed doing, they sorted these quickly and made sure I understood everything they were doing.

This review not only covers work undertaken by M&W but in hindsight, also looks back over 12 months to Sept '20. Hopefully this will give the reader a fuller perspective.
The work involved. New boiler & water cylinder. New pump/valves/significant pipework & rewiring. Installation of Hive. M&W engineer - Chris Muir. Plumbing engineer - John.
Also: replacement of kitchen tap
Reason for work? 25+ yr old boiler/slight leak from cylinder/tap failure.
Three preferred suppliers were sourced. 3 pitches were made after which Melville & Whitson were chosen. They were significantly more professional and thorough than the other two under detailed questioning of their proposals.
Scoping: Chris arrived at our home - on time. Full assessment done of needs. Open & frank discussion of what solutions would solve the issues. Convincing reasons given to back these up e.g. optimum Kwh size of boiler - flexibility to reduce/increase power if desired e.g. if we wanted to install additional radiators.
Written quotation produced for work agreed - sent within timescales promised. Date agreed for work to be completed ( over 2 days).
Work commenced on date agreed - no delays.
Friendly but equally business like disposition throughout.
Preparation of workplace: time spent securing safety of home contents (e.g. carpets etc) Full explanation given as to what was to be done and how it would be carried out. Minimised disruption at all times. Updates also provided as work progressed. Were fully informed at all times.
All work completed and tested to make sure fully operational.
Not left between day 1 and day 2 without hot water.
New boiler/system controls fully explained and demonstration given.
Hive system set up via broadband. Again, fully tested and explained.
Vaillant boiler maintenance/invalidation of 10 year warranty conditions talked through e.g. regular annual services/adding of inhibitor to system.
Outcome? Extremely successful. Brand new, powerful, high quality efficient heating/water system installed at a fair price.
Post installations - all old materials/components taken away and debris tidied up.
Invoice received - as per quote agreed. Efficient over the phone payment taken.
12 months on - so looking back did the solution meet our needs? Yes. Totally. Not one issue.
Home heating and hot water at the touch of the App/Hive control. Very quiet boiler and pump systems.
Warranty service done - October '22. Chris returned, inspected all aspects of the system. No faults. Performance level readings extremely high. Minute residue in filtration - normal. Overall, the system and its components are doing what they should.
Chris made sure service book stamped to preserve warranty terms. Pointed out that at next service inhibitor needed to be added to system. If it wasn't and the boiler developed a fault due to the PH level, Vaillant would fall back on that to excuse itself from liability.
Overall/Summary
M&W via Chris are a 1st class company and its people strive to do the very best for their customers. They pride themselves in delivering the best they can as reputation is clearly very important to them.
Chris in particular takes a personal interest in his work and should he ever get it wrong he will be the first to admit fault but make sure he puts it right. He is a trades person customers want to deal with. He comes up with logical ideas. He always makes himself available at the end of the phone to discuss any issues/worries.
If you're contemplating whether to consider using M&W for any work at your home/place of work you'd be very wise to.

Used this company to install a new oil boiler and upgrade to the heating and radiator controls. Company stuck to their quote, arrived on time, completed their work in the period quoted, were very clean and tidy leaving the house as they found it each day and all members of staff involved were courteous and helpful, explaining what was happening at each stage of the process. Would highly recommend.

Having recently moved to the area, we had no prior experience with any local tradespeople nor did we know anyone to ask for recommendations. We were encouraged by the numerous excellent reviews on trusted trader so made contact with Melville and Whitson in order to replace our ancient boiler and water tank and install a new Combi boiler. Chris came to our home and couldn’t have been more helpful, taking the time to explain everything to us and answering any questions we had.
As for the work itself, we moved out for a couple of days as we have a small baby so left the guys to it. They completed the job on time and ensured everything was cleaned up for our return home.
We are delighted with the work they did and would not hesitate to use them again.

Replacement of central heating boiler. From requesting quotation to completion of installation everything went smoothly. The 2 tradesmen who fitted the boiler put down coverings on the floor and surfaces. We were kept informed as job progressed. They tidied up after themselves and removed all rubbish.

We required remedial work to replace taps and a cistern in a bathroom.
The plumber first attended to look at issues and we then received a quote within 24 hours. Quote was accepted and an appointment to carry out the work made the next day for 3 days time.
Workman turned up on time, carried out all work as quoted, and left a clean and tidy workplace.
Subsequently invoice for the amount quoted.

I have used Melville and Whitson before for a service but it was now time to get our aging lpg boiler replaced along with other work to radiators. I would highly reccomend them to anyone. They are extremely knowledgable and do an excelent job.

Called to get some radiators replaced, had someone round giving me a quote a couple of days later, and within a couple of weeks the works were complete.
The engineer I had was Stevie, who was lovely and a fast worker. He noticed one of the radiators I bought was damaged, so came back after that was replaced to complete the works. 10/10, will definitely recommend and use their services again!

Ive used the company for the last few years now for my annual boiler service. At my last service they identified a potential future issue which did become an issue around six months later. This was a part which was showing signs of wear. I contacted them and they promptly replaced the part leaving my boiler working perfectly. Great company with friendly staff I can't recommend them enough. I'll continue to use them for years to come.
